A seminar on association standard of palm kernel cake meal was held on August 25 in Yangzhou. Co-sponsored by China Cereals and Oil Association (CCOA) and Myande Group, this seminar was attended by over 30 experts and China’s top scientists active in the grain and vegetable oil processing industry. Prof. Xingguo Wang from Oils & Fats Branch of CCOA chaired the seminar. Also attended the seminar were Prof. Ruiyuan Wang, chief expert of CCOA, and Mr. Dongping He, president of CCOA Oil Branch. Zhang Guifeng, president of CCOA, gave a speech.
After hearing a report on the background and processing technology of palm kernel, the experts had a serious discussion on the draft copy of “Association Standard of Palm Kernel Cake” from different perspectives, and offered numerous constructive suggestions for revision, and finally reached consensus and approved the standard.
Experts agreed that the establishment of this standard is of great significance, and suggested to maximally accelerate the process of finalizing and releasing this standard so as to meet the increasing demand of the domestic feed and breeding industry for protein raw materials.
In 2019, global palm kernel processing reached 20.02 million tonnes, producing 8.79 million tonnes of palm kernel oil and 10.37 million tonnes of palm kernel cake. Palm kernel is the fastest growing oilseed in recent years. Palm kernel cake is highly nutritious. Its dry matter content is 2% higher than rice bran meal and wheat bran, and ammonia-free leachate is 90% of corn, crude protein content is 7% higher than corn, and metabolic energy is higher than corn. The content of iron, manganese, copper, selenium is much higher than corn. The content of important amino acids (lysine and methionine) is much higher than corn and wheat bran, so it can partially replace corn and wheat bran as animal feed materials to increase the utilization rate of energy feeds and to supplement protein feeds, thus enabling livestock to grow more rapidly and healthily.
In addition, palm kernel cake has the advantages of low price, harmless asepsis and long storage period, which makes it suitable for feed raw material. As a populous country, China has a huge demand for breeding industry and needs to introduce many new and beneficial feed raw materials. Palm kernel cake is a by-product of palm kernel pressing and extraction. It is a beneficial feed raw material with low price and wide sources.
However, the current absence of standard for palm kernel cake meal in China hinders its utilization. The development of this standard will fill the gap in China's industry and broaden the source of protein materials in China.
Myande has undertaken many palm kernel crushing and extraction projects in the international market. Hosting this seminar is a public welfare project of Myande and a practice of fulfilling corporate social responsibility. The expert panel unanimously agreed that the establishment of the standard for palm kernel cake is of great significance for expanding the sources of feed ingredients and ensuring national food and food safety.
